What We Do:
Into Africa takes the practical application of the Gospel of Christ into Kenya, East Africa. Our heart is to rebuild a lost generation of children victimized by the HIV/ AIDS pandemic, giving hope and a bright future to children in crisis. We rescue children from the streets and babies who have been abandoned. We equip these children and young adults through Bible studies, education, and training. We offer assistance and guidance for employment opportunities. Small grants or loans are arranged for the startup of small businesses. We help start community centers, churches, and schools that cater to orphaned, abandoned, and impoverished children.

Who We Are:
Rick and Audrey McAninch started their trek into Africa in 1993 after nearly 25 years of marriage and four children. They packed and left their comfortable life in Seattle, Washington, and moved to Kenya, East Africa. Trusting God to direct their steps, they started by teaching youth and advising leadership in a local church and school, while Rick remodeled the facility. Soon, it became obvious what would consume their focus—children in crisis. The HIV/AIDS pandemic began to sweep through Africa with an awful vengeance. Children with lost hope headed to the streets looking for help. Into Africa was born. Rick and Audrey brought children home by the carloads. For over 14 years, Into Africa has rescued children, started schools, rescue centers, orphanages, and group homes. Children have been adopted or cared for in foster homes or with relatives. Assistance and advice is given for young adults to find employment or help in starting small businesses of their own. Into Africa continues to support growing children and assists desperate widows who are trying to keep their children at home and in school. As God opens more doors, Into Africa plans to start community centers, churches, and schools. Into Africa gives hope to children in crisis through the practical application of the gospel of Christ.

Where We Are:
Into Africa is located in Kisumu, Kenya, East Africa. Kenya straddles the equator, resting on the coast of the Indian Ocean, in east-central Africa, with a population numbering over 41 million. The Great Rift Valley cuts a wide, steep swath through Kenya’s highlands. Its bordering countries are Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda. Kisumu, the home of Into Africa, is the 3rd largest city in Kenya and is a hub of activity, being the thoroughfare between the coast and Uganda. It is strategically located on the western bank of Lake Victoria, the second largest fresh water lake in the world, the headwaters to the Nile River. This diverse, developing city is the home to some 500,000 people, about 50% of whom live below the poverty line. Kisumu has a 14% HIV/AIDS rate, which is double the percentage of the nation of Kenya as a whole. At least 60% of Kisumu’s population lives in slum estates, where most lack access to electricity, running water, and decent sanitation facilities, which means Kisumu also bears a high rate of malaria and water-borne diseases.
